Clinical Titles

The award of a clinical title from the Division of Nursing and Midwifery (The Division), La Trobe University, is in recognition of a significant contribution to clinical practice from someone who has an on-going relationship with the Division, or it is for a person who acts in a leadership capacity that is harmonious with the aims and mission of the Division. The award is prestigious and the evaluation of applications is accordingly rigorous. Clinical academics are usually involved in teaching programs and/or research that is related to nursing and midwifery, and are not usually remunerated for their work.

The award of a Clinical Title from the Division normally runs for a period of one year from 1 July 20XX to 30 June 20XZ and renewal may be possible.

Clinical title holders are a highly esteemed and integral part of The Division and are invited to attend events of the School such as our seminar series, research colloquia, and other opportunities for professional development and networking. We provide membership of our library and access to a range of benefits and facilities that are available to our staff. Clinical title holders are presented with a certificate of recognition which is highly regarded amongst the profession.

How to apply

All applications will be treated in the strictest confidence and according to the Division’s selection criteria. The Division’s selection panel sits three times per year and applications will be held for consideration at the earliest opportunity.

Selection Criteria and Role Descriptions

Adjunct Associate Lecturer / Clinical Associate Lecturer

Current practicing certificates with NBV for nurses. BN or equivalent; or knowledge and experience relevant to their engagement with the program. Demonstrated clinical expertise and experience in a designated practice area; or knowledge, skills and experience that compliments teaching and research at the school.
Commitment to teaching by:
i) A past record of considerable involvement in teaching of nursing and/or midwifery students;
ii) A preparedness to regularly facilitate student learning in the future.

Adjunct Lecturer / Clinical Lecturer

All of the above, plus;
Ideally holds or is working towards a higher degree in nursing, a related discipline or equivalent. Recognised leadership and commitment to the profession and to the school.

Adjunct Senior Lecturer / Clinical Senior Lecturer

All of the above, plus; significant contribution to clinical nursing and/or midwifery, and/or research. Involvement in professional development activities. Significant contribution to teaching undergraduate, postgraduate and higher degrees students.

Adjunct Associate Professor

All of the above, plus: an outstanding contribution to the development of nursing and/or midwifery as evidenced by, for example, provision of a continuing hight level of commitment and achievement in designated nursing and/or midwifery speciality. Leadership in research policy, or supervision of research projects.

Adjunct Professor

All of the above, plus; evidence and recognition of demonstrated national and international leadership in nursing and/or midwifery.
