About the Division
The Division of Nursing and Midwifery's origins as a provider of high level nursing education extend back to 1948 as the College of Nursing, Australia. We therefore have a long and well regarded history as Australia's oldest tertiary Division of Nursing. This extensive history has enabled the School to enjoy a wide range of international links and to establish a tradition of innovation, excellence and dynamism in nursing research and nursing education.
Nursing is for people who are able to blend the arts and sciences. It frequently requires an extremely strong physical, psychological and emotional constitution. Nurses provide care across the continuum of life from before birth through the challenges of adolescence, chronic disabilities, and acute crisis situations to death, which may come in very old age. Nursing involves skills in health education therapeutic use of self - to name but a few.
Responding to rapidly changing health care needs and providing relevant, contemporary education requires a solid and innovative research base. Our research strengths include evidence based practice, advanced nursing practice, acute care, aged care, palliative care and rural health care under the guidance of five professors. contemporary education requires a solid and innovative research base.
We have very well developed programs and processes in place to support students and ensure their opportunities for success and a happy university experience are maximised.
The on-campus skills laboratories enable students to practice and develop clinical nursing skills in a simulated and supportive environment.
