Undergraduate Courses 2009
In 2009 the Division will be introducing a new curriculum that has been specifically designed to meet the needs of the health industry. The new curriculum includes a new common first year that allows nursing and midwifery students to undertake study with other health disciplines. We recognise that, increasingly, nurses and midwives work inter-professionally with other health professions in the clinical setting. By developing a curriculum that shares a large component of shared study in the first year with students in other health related courses our graduate nurses and midwives will have an early appreciation of the integrated nature of modern health care delivery. This will give our nursing and midwifery graduates a significant head start in their careers.
We also recognise the importance of education in the clinical setting and the new courses retain a significant number of clinical placement periods. These include the opportunity to spend time studying in our Clinical Schools based at some of Victoria's major health care facilities. Education in the clinical environment is complemented by theory and practice delivered on each of our five campuses using a variety of techniques including lectures, tutorials, laboratories and simulations using computer controlled mannequins. Delivery of theoretical learning is increasingly being supplemented with online learning where appropriate.
The new course structures for the Bachelor of Nursing and the Bachelor of Nursing/Bachelor of Midwifery double degree are outlined below. We will also be providing pathways for Division 2 conversion and graduate entry programs and we will post these pathways as soon as the details are finalised.
