Professional and Clinical Pathways
Clinical Pathway
The aim of these master degree courses is to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide an advanced level of nursing and midwifery care in their specialist field of endeavour. The courses require students to demonstrate competency of a range of clinical skills commensurate with working in their specialist field. The flexible mode of delivery will be attractive to nurses and midwives seeking a career in these fields but located a distance (including international) from the La Trobe/Alfred Hospital Clinical School, La Trobe/Austin Hospital Clinical School and the LaTrobe/Bendigo Health Care Group Clinical School as well as our industry partners for the Neonatal Intensive Care course the Royal Children’s Hospital, Mercy Hospital, Royal Women’s Hospital and Monash Medical Centre. All applicants will be considered for entry into the course only when suitable clinical experience is validated at the hospital location where they will undertake the clinical component of the course.
Internationally, these courses will be offered to students seeking a master degree level qualification from an Australian university. The flexible mode of delivery will enable the course to be offered off-shore given the new e-learning technologies taht are now available. The clinical component of the course will be conducted in the student’s clinical workplace and assessed by their clinical teachers once suitable clinical experience and supervision had been negotiated.
Professional Pathway
The aim of this Master of Nursing course is to provide students with the knowledge and skills that assists their professional development in their area of practice. It is envisaged that the proposed flexible mode of delivery will be attractive to nurses looking to advance their career in a professional area of nursing not directly associated with hands on patient care. It will enable nurses from distant locations (including international) to enrol. Entry into this course is not contingent of an applicant having access to employment or clinical placement in a speciality field; this will be an attractive study option for international nurses. Applicants wishing to undertake a unit of study that requires clinical practice will require Course Coordinator, approval and will need to meet the requirements of the hospital assessment of competency and registration requirements of Nurses Board of Victoria.
Internationally, this course will be offered to students seeking a master degree level qualification from an Australian university.Course Structure
