David Kilcullen

Senior Advisor to general David Petraeus in 2007 and 2008, when he helped design and monitor the Iraq War troop 'surge'. From 2005 to 2006, he was Chief Strategist in the Office of the Coordinator for Counterterrorism at the US State Department. Kicullen, who has also been and advisor to the British government, the Australian Government and NATO, is a former Australian Army officer and the author of three acclaimed books: The Accidental Guerilla, Counterinsurgency and Out of the Mountains.

Robert Manne

Emeritus Professor, Vice-Chancellor's Fellow and Convenor of the Ideas and Society Program at La Trobe University. A leading public intellectual and commentator, he is the author/editor of over 20 books including Left, Right, Left: Political Essays 1977 – 2005; Making Trouble: Essays against the New Australian Complacency and three Quarterly Essays, most recently Bad News.
