Vice-Chancellor Professor John Dewar said he was looking forward to working with API to develop quality education programs that time-poor students could access via the latest technology to balance work, family and other commitments and still gain a quality education.
'Many of our students have busy schedules and have been asking us to provide better ways to both learn and earn, so they can upgrade their qualifications at a time and place that suits them. This new partnership delivers exactly that,' Professor Dewar said.
'We are initially offering a Masters of Business Administration and a Masters of Nursing Science online, but more courses are currently being developed and will be rolled out progressively in coming months.
'All of these new courses are designed specifically to meet the needs of the growing number of highly motivated, working professionals who want all the benefits of a La Trobe University qualification, but do not have the time to attend at one of our campuses.'
Professor Dewar said the flexibility of the new online courses was another draw card.
'Under the traditional University enrolment model, there are usually just two intake opportunities available each year for students. By taking these courses online, students can enroll at up to seven intakes points and individual courses don't necessarily need to be completed in a particular order,' Professor Dewar said.
'This allows for "carousel learning" where students can hop on and off when they have the time available to complete a component of their studies,' he said.
API will to help convert the programs into an online format, recruit students and support student retention efforts. API will work closely with La Trobe to ensure that the new online programs maintain the highest educational standards.
The company also will use its integrated marketing and branding strategies to extend the University's reach, increasing the enrolment of highly qualified students.
'We are delighted to enter the Australian market by partnering with one of the country's great universities,' said Academic Partnerships Chairman and CEO Randy Best. 'La Trobe has a tradition of excellence and innovation, and these new online programs will build on that proud history.'
