Festival goes from strength to strength

A strengthened alliance between the City of Greater Bendigo and La Trobe University will see the Bendigo Writers Festival go from strength to strength.

The City of Greater Bendigo and La Trobe University have been major supporters of the first two festivals.  They have now agreed a partnership to further develop the festival over the next three years.  The partnership will enable expansion of the festival program, enhanced marketing and more innovative events.

City of Greater Bendigo Director – City Futures, Stan Liacos said he was delighted that the two organisations are committed to further developing this popular event.

‘The success of the first two festivals has been astounding and this year’s Bendigo Writers Festival is set to put Bendigo on the map as the home of one of the greatest literary events in regional Victoria.

‘The City and the University have established a strong relationship in the arts with the La Trobe Art Institute and Bendigo Art Gallery collaboration.

‘The strengthened alliance between La Trobe University and the City of Greater Bendigo in presenting the third Bendigo Writers Festival will build on that solid foundation. The two organisations have committed to a three-year agreement that will see the festival grow from strength to strength,’ said Mr Liacos.

La Trobe University’s Pro Vice-Chancellor (Regional), Professor Richard Speed said the alliance has enabled an already successful festival to progress to the next level.

‘The very strong partnership that exists between the City and the University has ensured the success of the Bendigo Writers Festival in 2012 and 2013,’ said Professor Speed.

‘Our students, staff and alumni all benefit from the opportunities that the Bendigo Writers Festival brings to the city.  We can use events like the Bendigo Writers Festival to support our teaching and research, as well as enhance our students’ learning experience.

‘La Trobe University is committed to working with the City to introduce initiatives that will enhance the program and learning opportunities that the 2014 Bendigo Writers Festival offers and take the event to the next level.

‘This is another step forward in our vision to see Bendigo recognised as a great University City.’
