Spirits soar with Kristi, Chelsea visit

As Bendigo Spirit soars ahead into the WNBL finals next week, the spirits of students and staff will lift tomorrow when team members Kristi Harrower and Chelsea Aubry visit La Trobe University.

Chelsea Aubry and Kristi Harrower speak to staff and students about their season, training regimes and how the game has changed over the years.La Trobe University’s Bendigo Campus has been a sponsor of the Bendigo Spirit since the club’s inception four years ago and Campus Director, Andrew Skewes says there’s an air of excitement amongst staff and students.

Mr Skewes says the visit provides the opportunity for students and staff to quiz Kristi and Chelsea about life as basketballers, as well as Kristi’s and Chelsea’s 2012 Olympics experience when Kristi, as member of the Opals, competed against Chelsea who represented Canada.

A positive local relationship

‘We are proud to support the Bendigo Spirit and have enjoyed an excellent relationship with them through our sponsorship,’ said Mr Skewes.

‘The on-campus clinics run by the Bendigo Spirit team have made a valuable contribution to student life and the school visits they have conducted on our behalf have been most helpful in promoting the leading sports courses that we run here.

‘Bendigo Spirit has helped build capacity in teaching, learning and research in sports courses such as the new sports management and exercise physiology courses and existing courses in sports development, physiotherapy, physical education and outdoor education.’
