The plan identifies La Trobe University as a key partner in the La Trobe Employment Cluster in Melbourne’s north.
Vice-Chancellor Professor John Dewar said: ‘the Government’s Plan and cluster concept is very important to the overall development and growth of Melbourne and will guide future economic growth.’
La Trobe University has contributed to the development of the new Plan with a detailed submission and involvement in planning workshops.
Professor Dewar said under the University’s Melbourne Campus Vision, La Trobe University will become a ‘University Town’, encompassing a vibrant and dynamic employment, research, education, recreational and residential hub.
Melbourne’s north, he said, had grown and changed greatly since the University was established nearly 50 years ago.
‘The inclusion of La Trobe University in the Plan as a National Employment Cluster is significant recognition and a great achievement for the University.
'We are particularly delighted that ‘Plan Melbourne’ aligns so closely with our own Campus Vision, and we look forward to working with the Melbourne Metropolitan Planning Authority and our other partners in the further development and delivery of the La Trobe Employment Cluster,’ he said.
