The Awards recognise Australia’s pre-eminent scientists and technologists who have bridged the gap between research and the marketplace by persisting with their ideas, often against the odds, to the point that their innovations have made broad economic, social or environmental benefits.
Dr Radford, a former CSIRO research scientist and currently Non-Executive Director of Modern Banking Ltd and Nucleus Network, was recognised along with Dr James Rothel, Dr Paul Wood and Dr Stephen Jones for changing the way tuberculosis is diagnosed around the world.
They invented and commercialized revolutionary technology that today greatly assists in global TB control in both humans and cattle. They played a role in successfully eradicating bovine TB in Australia and founded the company Cellestis Ltd which commercialised this technology.
