Students, families celebrate success

La Trobe University students and their families are celebrating their success after 133 prizes and scholarships were presented to the students at the Bendigo Campus Prize Ceremony on Thursday 2 August. 

L-R Melisa Pearce, Laura Dunn, Megan Huggard, Monique Hardwick, Stephanie Di Palma, Wendy SheaDeans of each of the University’s five faculties presented the recipients of prizes for 2011 and scholarships for 2012 to Emeritus Professor John McKenzie AM, Deputy Chancellor, La Trobe University, who then presented the awards to the students.

Two undergraduate students scored a trifecta, winning three awards each. They were Monique Hardwick, a business student, and Caitlin Mulqueen who is studying pharmacy. Postgraduate student Megan Huggard received two awards on the night.

La Trobe University would like to congratulate all students who received scholarships or prizes for their dedication and hard work.

SELECTION OF PRIZE AND SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS

MONIQUE ELYCE HARDWICK

Faculty of Business, Economics and Law

Dean's Commendation Award – Undergraduate - Awarded to an undergraduate student in recognition of their outstanding achievement by attaining an average mark over all subjects in a calendar year equivalent to 80 and above. This prize was established to acknowledge academic excellence in Faculty undergraduate students.

LexisNexis Book Prize (joint winner)  -Awarded to two students based at La Trobe University Bendigo Campus currently enrolled in a second or third year level law subject with the best academic performance in the subject Introduction to Business Law. This prize was originally awarded by Butterworths Books and commenced in 1988. In 2001, Butterworths operated as a member of the LexisNexis Group and from 2002 LexisNexis took over responsibility of the existing prize.

Zonta International Foundation Jane M Klausman Women in Business

Scholarship - Awarded to a female student enrolled in an undergraduate business degree at Bendigo, who has achieved an outstanding academic record. This scholarship was established from a bequest by Jane M. Klausman, a member of the Zonta Club of Syracuse, New York, USA, and the 1990-1995 Zonta International Parliamentarian. During her career, Ms Klausman was a professional secretary, parliamentarian and entrepreneur.


CAITLIN ELEANOR MULQUEEN,

Faculty of Science, Technology and Engineering

PDL Pharmacy Practice and Management - Awarded to the student with the highest mark in the fourth year subject, Pharmacy Practice and Management. This prize is also kindly donated by Pharmaceutical Defence Limited.

Pharmaceutical Society Gold Medal - Awarded to the most outstanding honours student in the final year of the Bachelor of Pharmacy. The Pharmaceutical Society of Australia (PSA) is the peak national professional pharmacy organisation representing Australia’s 25,000 pharmacists working in all sectors and across all locations. PSA provides an extensive program of education and professional development activities across Australia. This prize was established 2004.

David Nolte Pharmacy Oral Case History Award (not presented at the prize ceremony) Awarded to a fourth year student enrolled in the Bachelor of Pharmacy, who presents the best oral case history from first year placements.


SAHIL VERMA

Faculty of Science, Technology and Engineering

Australian Computer Society (ACS) Student Award - Awarded to the graduating student with the best academic performance in the final year of an undergraduate information technology course accredited by the Australian Computing Society. The Australian Computer Society (ACS) is the recognised association for Information and Communications Technology (ICT) professionals, attracting a large and active membership from all levels of the ICT industry.


MEGAN MAREE HUGGARD

Faculty of Education

Dean's Medal for Academic Excellence – Awarded annually to the highest achieving postgraduate student in their final year before graduating at La Trobe University Bendigo campus.

Bruce Palmer Memorial Award - Awarded to a student who has excelled in the Education Studies components of the Graduate Diploma in Education. Award established in honour of Bruce Palmer.


STEPHANIE ANNA DI PALMA

Faculty of Education

DM Myers University Medal - Awarded to the outstanding undergraduate student graduating in each Faculty. This award was inaugurated by a generous benefaction by the foundation Vice-Chancellor of the University, Dr David Milton Myers.


LACHLAN PHILIP SPENCER

Faculty of Health Sciences

Holsworth Paramedicine Bursary - Awarded annually by the Bendigo Tertiary Education Anniversary Foundation to a third year paramedicine student who has experienced issues specifically relating to a rural or regional location. This prize was also established from an initial donation by Dr Bill and Carol  Holsworth of Bendigo.


STEVEN MAXWELL ABBOTT

Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences

Parsons Brinckerhoff Prize - Awarded to the outstanding student over the four years of the Bachelor of Urban, Rural and Environmental Planning based on academic merit and overall achievements in the course. Parsons Brinckerhoff is a global consulting firm assisting public and private clients to plan, develop, design, construct, operate and maintain hundreds of critical infrastructure projects around the world.


LAURA ESTELLE DUNN

Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences

National Gallery of Victoria Trustees Award - Awarded for highest artistic and academic merit to a student in the Bachelor of Graphic Design who has successfully completed the first year of their course. Founded in 1861, the National Gallery of Victoria is Australia’s oldest public art gallery. This award was established to recognise student excellence of those studying visual art.


WENDY LOUISE SHEA

Campus Award

City of Greater Bendigo Community Leadership Award - Awarded to a Bendigo campus postgraduate student who has demonstrated exceptional community leadership in their area of study. This prize is kindly donated by the City of Greater Bendigo.


TODD ALAN RAE BROADBENT & MELISA JANE PEARCE

Campus Award

La Trobe University/Bendigo Bank Academy of Sport Scholarship - Awarded for academic merit and continued involvement in the Bendigo Bank Academy of Sport. This prize was established by La Trobe University to support student who have participated in the Bendigo Bank Academy of Sport and who intend to, or who are pursuing formal academic studies at the Bendigo campus of La Trobe University
