Open Day at La Trobe

23 Aug 2012

La Trobe University this Sunday, 26 August, will throw open the doors of its Melbourne campus at Bundoora from 10 am to 4 pm.

Open DayProspective students, their parents and the community are invited to inspect the scenic 2,000 hectare campus with its more than 40 buildings, a vibrant communal campus life style – and to see the results of major urban wildlife restoration on La Trobe’s Melbourne Wildlife Reserve.

Vice-Chancellor Professor John Dewar says La Trobe is one of a small number of Australian universities ranked in the word’s top 500 universities, and Open Day helps relay that message to every prospective student.

The action-packed day will highlight the full range of University’s education offerings, as well featuring live chemistrydemonstrations, moot court proceedings and a host of other entertainment.

Apart from providing key insight on what it’s like to be a ‘La Trobian’, there will be many food outlets including Melbourne North’s iconic ‘Taco Truck’, to make it a day out for family and friends.

‘We’ve designed our Open Day around you,’ Professor Dewar told prospective students. ‘You’ll have the opportunity to get a feel for La Trobe, find out about the courses we offer, learn about our outstanding student experience and support services.

‘On Open Day this year, you will hear first-hand from our students, staff and graduates on what it is like to be part of the La Trobe community.’

There will be opportunities to have the VTAC admissions explained, learn about course costs and scholarships, student support services, sustainability and transport as well as attend dozens of information stands on accommodation, clubs and societies.

There will also be live bands, open markets, teaching staff and student ambassadors roaming the campus to help out with any questions. Tours and information sessions will run throughout the day  - and if you need a little break, stop by the library for some photo booth fun!

‘La Trobe’s Open Day is about taking time to see what choices are on offer, discovering something new and figuring out the best way to get what you want from the University you chose,’ says Professor Dewar.

La Trobe’s Open Day will be held Sunday 26 August from 10am-4pm. For more information visit: www.latrobe.edu.au/openday
