La Trobe welcomes 1500 new students

Mr Andrew Skewes, Director - Bendigo CampusAlana Conway, a former finalist of the TV show Australia’s got Talent, will sing the National Anthem and Uncle Brien Nelson will perform the official welcome to country.

La Trobe University Bendigo Campus Director Andrew Skewes, said the aim of the event is to welcome new students and encourage them to embrace community life in Bendigo, both on and off campus.

‘La Trobe University is located in the culturally and commercially vibrant, highly connected and rapidly developing regional city of Bendigo,’ said Mr Skewes.

Mr Skewes said that this year a surge in enrolments meant that there are now more than 5000 students on Campus.

‘This is a very exciting time for the Campus. As well as offering high profile courses such as physiotherapy, pharmacy, paramedicine and education we are also introducing new courses in exercise physiology, strategic communications, community development and early childhood education.

‘We are welcoming students from the local area, interstate and from 35 nations in every corner of the globe.’

The civic welcome is part of the campus’s carnival market day program where clubs, societies and local businesses showcase what they have to offer. There will also be entertainment, carnival rides and a free lunch immediately after this event.

The civic reception on Tuesday 21 February commences at 12.30 pm.

The reception is one of the events in the three-day O Week program, which runs until Thursday 23 February. A range of information sessions, social events and campus tours will give a taste of student life at the campus and in Bendigo.

International students will be welcomed in a special festival of events on Friday 24 February.
