Eminent economist heading to Shepparton
15 Nov 2012
‘It’s exciting to have such a high profile speaker for the business school’s first major event,’ said La Trobe’s Faculty of Business, Law and Economics Shepparton Coordinator, Sue Nalder. ‘Professor Harper has worked with government and business at the highest levels and his views will be very insightful.’
Members of the business community and La Trobe University’s business and accounting alumni have been invited to attend the launch and hear Ian Harper speak.
The lecture on Thursday 22 November is the first in a series of topical lectures and events the University has planned for the next year. ‘Our lectures and events will provide local business people access to the most current thinking in business and academia,’ said Mrs Nalder. ‘We want to offer our business community, and past students, plenty of opportunities to be involved at La Trobe and use this terrific, state of the art facility.’
Currently a partner at Deloitte Access Economics, Professor Harper was a member of the celebrated Wallis Inquiry and consequently at the forefront of financial market reform in Australia.
Professor Harper was also the inaugural Chairman of the Australian Fair Pay Commission and, from January 2011 to February 2012, he served as one of three panellists on the Independent Review of State Finances in Victoria.
