2008 VC's Awards for Excellence in Teaching

La Trobe University’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Paul Johnson was very pleased to present the 2008 Vice-Chancellor’s Awards for Excellence in Teaching to Dr Susan Lawler and Dr John Banks at the Colloquium on Curriculum on 5 December.

Professor Johnson commended Dr Banks, a Lecturer in the Department of Mathematics, for his excellent record of curriculum development and reflective practice. Dr Susan Lawler, Senior Lecturer, Department of Environmental Management and Ecology, was also commended for her excellence in curriculum development and her outstanding record as a classroom teacher and postgraduate supervisor. Professor Johnson urged the La Trobe University community to join him in congratulating Dr Lawler and Dr Banks on their well-deserved awards.

Dr John BanksDr John Banks, Lecturer, Department of Mathematics has been employed at La Trobe University since 1996. Over the last few years, he has taught a range of mathematics subjects including topology, topology and analysis, discrete mathematics and mathematical topics for computer sciences.  He also holds the position of Course Advisor for Bachelor of Science and a Mathematics and Statistics Postgraduate Coordinator.

  Dr Banks received a Faculty Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning from the Faculty of Science and Technology in May 2006 and a Carrick Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning in July 2006.

 

 

 

 

Dr Susan LawlerDr Susan Lawler, Senior Lecturer, Department of Environmental Management and Ecology has been at La Trobe University since 1992. She started out as a postdoctoral researcher at Bundoora 1992 and has been at Albury-Wodonga campus since 1993.

She Teaches genetics, human biology and evolution; plant sciences and ecological genetics and evolutionary ecology and is a postgraduate coordinator for the Department of Environmental Management and Ecology.

Dr Lawler is also a member of the Faculty Research and Graduate Studies Committee, and received the Dean’s Award for Teaching Excellence in the Faculty of Science and Technology 2007.  She was awarded an Australian Learning and Teaching Council (ALTC) citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning 2008, as well as a La Trobe University Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning 2008.
