This follows a new ‘partnership pathway agreement’ between La Trobe’s Faculty of Education and the Sunraysia Institute of TAFE.
The agreement assists students by offering a pathway from TAFE to university, providing them with the skills and study experience needed to successfully complete university studies.
Information about the new pathways will be available at La Trobe University’s and Sunraysia Institute of TAFE’s Open Days this Sunday, 12 August.
The agreement covers students completing TAFE diplomas including Children’s Services, Community Welfare Work, Accounting and Professional Writing and Editing who, from 2008, can apply directly to the University for entry into the Bachelor of Education at the Mildura Campus. It will benefit current and future students at Sunraysia TAFE’s Mildura and Swan Hill campuses.
Mr Kent Farrell, Executive Director of La Trobe University’s Mildura Campus, says students will benefit by cutting down the amount of time spent at the University because they will receive credits for their prior TAFE study.
‘For example, a student moving from the Diploma of Children’s Services into the Bachelor of Education can reduce their course from four years to three.’
Ms Win Scott, Chief Executive Officer of Sunraysia Institute of TAFE says: ‘The agreement provides an excellent opportunity for a range of students to undertake a TAFE qualification and then use this as entry into university study.’
‘There are a range of students who undertake TAFE qualifications, from school leavers who may not achieve the cut-off ENTER to people who haven't studied in years but have always wanted to,’ Ms Scott says.
In addition, Sunraysia TAFE students completing the Diploma of Conservation and Land Management will be eligible to receive credit for entry into the Bachelor of Arts (Nature Tourism) or the Bachelor of Arts (Natural Resources Education) at the La Trobe University Bendigo Campus.
