La Trobe wins $2.4 million for teaching excellence
La Trobe University has been recognised among Australia’s top achieving universities for excellence in teaching and learning in the latest Commonwealth Government Learning and Teaching Performance Fund Allocations.
The University received $2.4 million for the quality of its teaching and for additional performance in the category of Humanities, Arts and Education.
The allocations were announced yesterday by the Minister for Education Science and Training, Ms Julie Bishop.
Acting Vice-Chancellor and Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Denise Kirkpatrick, said while recognising particularly those teachers involved in the winning categories, the award highlights the contribution and dedication of staff across the whole university.
‘Their hard work has resulted in significant new funding that will be invested in learning and teaching development at La Trobe next year,’ she said.
Professor Kirkpatrick said the achievement also acknowledged the support for new learning and teaching initiatives by Vice-Chancellor, Professor Brian Stoddart, who retires at the end of this year.
‘Quality learning has been a tradition at La Trobe with graduates consistently rating highly the calibre of our teaching in annual surveys conducted by Graduate Careers Australia.’
Professor Kirkpatrick said the learning and teaching result was particularly pleasing coming on top of the University’s recent success in gaining $16 million in ARC and NHMRC research grants allocations.
