La Trobe Politics Society Lecture - Will Asia Stay Peaceful?
Professor Hugh White, Head of the Strategic and Defence Studies Centre at the Australian National University, will address the question ‘Will Asia Stay Peaceful?’ when he delivers the La Trobe Politics Society's Annual Lecture on Tuesday, 19th September.
The lecture will be held at 6.30pm in the John Scott Meeting House on La Trobe University’s main Melbourne campus at Bundoora, Melway Reference La Trobe University, G5.
Professor White will examine the prospects for a future power balance between the US, China, India and Japan, and the challenge that poses to Australian foreign and strategic policy.
Professor White was previously Director of the Australian Strategic Policy Institute and, prior to that, worked as an intelligence analyst with the Office of National Assessments, a journalist with the Sydney Morning Herald, and as a senior adviser on the staffs of Defence Minister Kim Beazley and Prime Minister Bob Hawke.
He has also held senior positions in the Department of Defence, including Deputy Secretary for Strategy and Intelligence.
An admission fee of $5 includes refreshments.
