La Trobe University Awards Contract
to Develop New City Campus

La Trobe University is pleased to announce that a contract has been awarded to refurbish and fit out the University’s new City Campus building at 284-294 La Trobe Street, Melbourne (The Argus Building).

The objectives of the project are to strengthen the University’s presence in the City of Melbourne, provide new learning, teaching and research opportunities, and enhance links with government, business and the professions.

The new city campus will be a major teaching and research facility and La Trobe University’s third largest campus. A wide range of courses will be offered, with a focus on postgraduate, professional, executive and international programs, as well as Masters and PhDs by research.

The Argus Building, home to The Argus newspaper from 1926 until 1957, will provide an attractive work environment for staff and students. The University’s main entrance will be on La Trobe St, providing a strong street identity. Design objectives emphasise interaction and collaboration within an environmentally sensitive framework.

The University’s programs at the Franklin St campus are scheduled to transfer to the new campus when it opens in 2008.
