La Trobe University VTAC offers up 20 percent for 2006
Offers by La Trobe University [Round 0 (Early Offers) and Round 1] totalled 6,940 compared with 5,775 for 2005 – a 20 percent increase.
Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Brian Stoddart, said one reason for the increase is the introduction this year of fee paying offers (257), 75 percent of these at the Melbourne (Bundoora) campus.
Most of the interest in fee paying places has been generated by law and education courses.
For Commonwealth Supported Places (CSP) Education courses are popular. The Bachelor of Education has increased by 127 with two new courses, Bachelor of Physical and Health Education (54) and Bachelor of Physical and Outdoor Education (51), generating strong interest.
Nursing has been popular with, for example, an increase of 31 offers for the Bachelor of Nursing (Division 2 Nurses Conversion) as well as 64 for the Bachelor of Nursing (Pre-registration) at Bundoora and 27 at Mildura.
Other increases in offers have been in the areas of Arts, Commerce, Animal Science and Finance.
