Understanding Conflict in the Workplace
On the eve of major change in Australian workplace laws, La Trobe University will present a public lecture by visiting international specialist in labour relations and human resources, Alan Levy.
Mr Levy was recently appointed to the Canada Industrial Relations Board by the Federal Minister of Labour and the Prime Minister of Canada. A lecturer at the University of Toronto, he is also Principal of the firm, ADL Human Resources and Conflict Resolution Consulting.
His lecture, ‘Understanding Conflict in the Workplace’, will be held on Thursday, 23 June 2005 at 5.30 pm at the La Trobe University City Campus, 215 Franklin Street, Melbourne.
It will deal with the value of conflict in the workplace, being able to stop potential conflict, strategies for understanding conflict – and why we need conflict in our lives.
An expert in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), Mr Levy’s lecture will highlight its use in the industrial arena. He says although ADR can provide an answer to workplace conflict, it can’t always provide a solution.
Mr Levy – in Australia to teach a four-day intensive program on Workplace Dispute Resolution for La Trobe Law students – has worked in senior management in both the private and public sectors for the past 25 years, specialising in a wide range of employment disputes.
He lectures and works internationally, in Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Australia, on conflict resolution, social psychology, human resources, change management and labour relations. A member of the American Bar Association, he is also Executive Board Member of the ADR Section of the Ontario Bar Association and the Toronto Area Industrial Relations Association.
The lecture is free, but bookings, to tel: (03) 9285 5201, are essential as numbers are limited.
