La Trobe University launches new nursing course at Shepparton
From the beginning of 2006, La Trobe University will introduce a three-year Bachelor of Nursing program and a conversion Bachelor of Nursing for Division 2 nurses at Shepparton.
Staff from the University’s School of Nursing and Midwifery and the Shepparton Campus have developed a new program to meet the needs of the local community.
Pro Vice-Chancellor of the Shepparton Campus, Ms Elizabeth Lavender, said this was an exciting initiative for the University and the Goulburn Valley community and has had strong support from Shepparton City Council, regional health facilities and education providers.
Ms Lavender – who for the past six years has held a senior management position within the University’s Faculty of Health Sciences and has a strong background in nursing education – said the Commonwealth Government has allocated twenty places for nursing in Shepparton.
‘The University will work closely with Goulburn Valley Health to implement the program which will be run in Shepparton drawing, where necessary, on the expertise of senior staff at other campuses.’
An information evening will be held on Wednesday, 30 November 2005 at 6 pm in Room C207, Cowley Building, Goulburn Ovens Institute of TAFE, Fryers St, Shepparton.
Prospective students who are not able to attend can ring (03) 5821 8450 for further information or visit the University’s administration office at 127 Welsford St Shepparton.
