The 10th Board Meeting of the Centre for China Studies
The tenth Board Meeting of the Centre for China Studies was held in Peking University on the 10th December 2011. Six members or their representatives from the three partner universities-La Trobe University, Peking University and Beijing Foreign Studies University, participated in this meeting chaired by Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor of La Trobe University Professor John Rosenberg.
The Board was informed of the recent development of the Centre and the launch of the Confucius Institute at La Trobe University, which will work closely with the Centre in promotion of Chinese language and culture in Melbourne and regional Victoria. The meeting discussion focused on the development of the major projects of the China Centre including staff and student exchange program, research collaborations and organisation of dialogues, seminars and public lectures. The Board welcomed Beijing Foreign Studies University to join in the Australia-China Student Forum from 2012 and encouraged the Centre to be engaged in more joint research programs such as Australia in China participated by scholars from La Trobe University and Beijing Foreign Studies University with coordination of the China Centre. With the efforts of the Board members the research project on Diplomatic Relations between the Qing Dynasty and the USA jointly funded by LTU, PKU and the First Historical Archives of China will start in 2012. The Board also gave full support to the Centre to work with the Centre for Dialogue of La Trobe University and the Institute for Cultural Industry of Peking University to co-organise an Australia-China High-Level Talks.
The meeting also covered the cooperation of the three universities beyond the Centre. Professor Pei Likun, Executive Director of the Centre, thanked all the members for their continuous support to the China Centre and reaffirmed that the Centre will continue to serve as a core unit to strengthen the strategic relations of the three partner universities.
The next Board meeting has been scheduled for the mid of June 2012 in Melbourne.
