Strengthened Cooperation with China University of Mining and Technology

Centre for China Studies received 11 delegates from China University of Mining and Technology (CUMT) on Friday 21st January 2011. The delegation was led by Professor Wang Changsheng, Deputy Dean of Xu Hai College at CUMT.

CUMT is one of the key national universities under the direct administration of the China's Ministry of Education. It is also included in the national "211 project", a government program designed to support and improve top-level institutions of higher learning in China. LTU and CUMT are currently discussing a 2+2 dual degree undergraduate program in Electronic Engineering and Civil Engineering.

Professor Pei Likun, Executive Director of the Centre for China Studies welcomed the delegation; Dr Howard Nicholas, Associate Dean (International), Faculty of Education shared his knowledge and experience in learning models related to employment and industry based learning; Dr Tony Jarvis, Associate Dean (International), Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences had a discussion of possible collaboration in Media Studies with the delegation. Professor Wang Changsheng said the visit was very productive and believed that the two universities will have a fruitful cooperation with the joint efforts from both sides.
