New Compute Resources Available
27 Apr 2012
VLSCI's move to Stage 2 will see a massive increase in capacity with the arrival of the Blue Gene/Q ('Avoca') and an upgrade to the x86 systems.
In anticipation of going live on 1 July 2012, a RAS Round 5 is now open until 24 May 2012 for new project proposals. Some existing projects will be offered top-up allocations without needing to re-apply. Details are below.
Do I need to apply for resources in RAS Round 5?
- Successful Round 4 (2012) users who are content with their current allocation of resources do not need to apply for the mid-year round. Round 6 will be advertised in October for access to resources in 2013.
- Existing users with active projects, who had their resource allocation capped in Round 4, will be eligible for an automatic increase of resources based on a revised cap setting. Users may be contacted by the PCF Manager to discuss this further.
- Unsuccessful Round 4 applicants and potential new users will need to apply for resources in RAS Round 5. Most applications are expected to be for access to the Blue Gene/Q. Stage 2 also includes additional nodes and cores on Merri (x86) and as more users migrate to the Blue Gene/Q, some other x86 resources will be freed up and available for allocation in this Round also.
For general information about the VLSCI RAS process and guidelines on how to write a successful RAS application please see website.
VLSCI's Peak Computing Facility Manager David Bannon will present an information session explaining RAS Round 5 for new and existing users.
- When: 3-4pm, Wednesday 2 May, 2012 (followed by afternoon tea)
- Where: VLSCI Boardroom, 187 Grattan St, Carlton or via videoconference from Bundoora or Clayton
Please RSVP to Claudia if you would like to attend the session at VLSCI Carlton or via videoconference (access details will be provided): claudia.curcio@unimelb.edu.au
