Get Connected!
15 Oct 2012
Applications are open for the 2013 La Trobe University Connect Mentor Program.
Join the program and support new students starting out at uni. As a Connect Mentor you will welcome new students at orientation, take students on a campus tour, introduce students to their peers, and provide advice and support throughout the first six weeks of the semester.
What’s in it for you?
- Develop valuable professional skills
- Leadership training and experience
- Eligibility for the La Trobe Award (University Leadership)
- Certificate of Participation
- $50 Gift Voucher
Thomas Flood described his positive experience as a Health Sciences Connect Mentor at Bundoora Campus; ‘From the Connect Mentor Program I have gained increased confidence, a better understanding of how smooth the transition into uni can be and what amazing opportunities are on offer for new and old students alike.’
How do I apply?
There are three ways to apply:- If you don’t have any previous experience as a mentor or leader, fill out the application form and come along to one of our group interviews where you’ll meet staff, mentors and other students. We will run a few activities to assess your suitability for the role and hopefully after that, you’ll be ready to go.
- If you’re in any other mentor/leadership programs or organisations (e.g. a club) and can get a staff member to refer you, fill out the application form and let us know who has referred you – it’s likely you won’t have to attend a group interview.
- If you’ve been a Connect Mentor before, simply fill out the application form again, and you’re in – that’s it!
