Chinese New Year Celebration Usher in Year of Rabbit

It has already been four weeks into 2011, but the staff and students of La Trobe University still said Happy New Year to each other while they celebrated the Lunar New Year together with their friends and colleagues of Asian heritage on Tuesday, 1st Feb 2011 at Eagle Bar La Trobe University (Bundoora Campus). The celebration, organised by the Centre for China Studies and the Deputy Vice Chancellor's Office (International and Development) kicked off a series China related events to be happened at La Trobe University. More than 400 special guests, LTU staff & students attended the celebration.

Vice Chancellor Professor Paul Johnson attended the event. Professor John Rosenberg, Deputy Vice Chancellor (International and Development) had a special welcome to all the people by speaking Chinese Language and his knowledge about the Chinese culture and Zodiac impressed everyone; Professor Pei Likun, Executive Director welcomed everyone and made special acknowledgement to all the organisations who had given great support to the centre during the year 2010; Madam GUO Xiao Juan, Education Consul of P.R. China to Melbourne, also attended this special event from her busy daily schedules. She welcomed all the guests, especially to the Chinese students and scholars and wished everyone a very happy Chinese New Year. Student Mr LIU Xin represented all the overseas students talked about the cultural differences and shared his experiences on how to adjust his life and how to settle in La Trobe University, he said that now he felt very warm and it's like a home away from home.

The fantastic program featuring ethic dances, traditional Chinese music, Tai Chi, Chinese food (making dumplings) were thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.
