Students say thanks to Kerr Neilson

Australia's most successful investment manager, Kerr Neilson, founder of Platinum Asset Management joined La Trobe University staff and students in a special event to celebrate the awarding of scholarships to La Trobe Financial Planning students.
 
In late 2013 Platinum Asset Manager, together with the Neilson Foundation contributed $180,000 towards a scholarship program supporting La Trobe Business School Financial Planning undergraduates. 
 
The Alumni and Advancement Office, together with the La Trobe Business School hosted a small intimate event to introduce Kerr to the first scholarship recipients and La Trobe executive staff.
 
Business School students - Monique Baines, Stefan Belevski, Liz Hemsley and Isabella Rinaldi -  each received a scholarship, valued at $15,000.  Kerr was delighted to meet the students and their families and find out more about their career aspirations in the financial planning industry.
 
Following the event and a competitive application process, Monique has been successful is attaining a highly coveted paid internship at Platinum Asset Management in Sydney, commencing in late January 2015.
 
La Trobe University was one of only five universities in the country who were successful in securing Platinum Scholarships for students and was one of the first universities to be accredited under the newly established Financial Planning National Accreditation Framework for Australian universities.
 
Kerr Neilson, the founder of Platinum Asset Management valued at $2.43 billion on BRW's 2013 Rich 200, is part of a growing trend of high net worth individuals offering major philanthropic gifts towards scholarships in the higher education sector. Collectively Platinum Asset Management, together with the Neilson Foundation are funding $900,000 over three years to five selected Australian universities.
