Sol Posen Research Award Winner

Heath McGowan

Congratulations to Heath McGowan, Associate Lecturer in Human Biosciences and PhD candidate at La Trobe.

Heath won the prestigious Sol Posen Research Award at the recent  Australian and New Zealand Bone and Mineral Society (ANZBMS) conference in Queenstown, New Zealand.

The award is given annually in recognition of the best publication submitted in the previous 18 months by a current higher degree or postdoctoral researcher in the area of bone and mineral research. 

Supervised by Human Biosciences staff members Aaron McDonald, John Schuijers and Brian Grills, the award winning publication is entitled "Galnon, a Galanin Receptor Agonist, Improves Bone Tissue Microarchitecture but Exacerbates Bone Loss in an Ovariectomised Rat Model" It was published this year in the Journal of Musculoskeletal and Neuronal Interactions.

Heath's current research is focussed on the skeletal development in genetically modified mice and is being conducted in collaboration with Associate Professor John Silke from Walter and Elisa Hall Institute.
