JSS University India visits La Trobe

His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji, Chancellor of JSS University in India, and Dr Bhojraj Suresh, Vice-Chancellor, visited La Trobe on 5 May to raise the level of cooperation between the universities.

Dr Suresh had meetings with Professor John Dewar, Vice-Chancellor of La Trobe, Professor John Rosenberg, Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professors Brian McGaw and Jane Long, Deputy Vice-Chancellors, Professor Nick Bisley, Executive Director La Trobe Asia, and other representatives of the University.

La Trobe already has an MOU and student exchange with JSS, which was founded in 2008 in Mysore and focuses on medical and health-related studies. In the working discussions possibilities for exchanges and placements were considered as was La Trobe participation in designing JSS's pharmacy program. In addition development of Life Sciences at JSS was raised. Representatives of Health Sciences and Agricultural Sciences at La Trobe will visit JSS next month to carry forward these discussions.

La Trobe has been teaching Hindi for some years and has appointed a new lecturer, Dr Ian Woolford, who commenced in January 2014.
