The 8th Global Confucius Institute Conference was held on the 7th and 8th of December 2013 with Vice Chancellor, Professor John Dewar, Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor John Rosenberg and Director of the La Trobe Confucius Institute, Professor Likun Pei representing La Trobe University.
The annual Global Confucius Institute Conference draws Directors and senior staff from institutions that host Confucius Institutes worldwide in order to share best practices, discuss important initiatives and the future direction of the Institute.
During the proceedings Vice Chancellor, Professor John Dewar was invited to speak at the Presidents Forum on the 8th of December. His speech addressed the first topic of the forum: “Confucius Institute Planning and University Development” where he presented on the topic with a focus on “Serving the Faculties” in which he outlined the university’s planning processes detailing the 5 year plan, Future Ready and the yearly planning processes which support this, including descriptions of the programs the Confucius Institute operate which align with those plans including the Australia-China Student Forum, collaboration and events held with Charles La Trobe College, Australia-Post partnership activities as well as events and language programs for the University community and general community through partnerships with local councils. Professor Dewar’s presentation was well received.
