The Confucius Institute launched its first off-campus Chinese language course with Camberwell Grammar School in July!
Established in late 2011, the Confucius Institute has been servicing its university and broader community in Melbourne's north for over two years. This collaboration with Camberwell Grammar School in Canterbury has enabled the extension of its Chinese language and culture services into Melbourne's east to service both the school (staff and parents) and broader community.
La Trobe University and Camberwell Grammar School, both reputable education institutions with long-established Chinese studies programs, are committed to supporting the development of Asia, and specifically China, literacy in Australia. This is a goal relevant to all sectors including government, business, and community-based organisations, as increasing globalisation and the rise of developing Asian nations witnesses a pattern of growth in, and commitment to, improved Asia engagement (both internationally and domestically).
The motivations of the students enrolled in the first Confucius Institute Chinese language offering at Camberwell Grammar School reflect the cross-sector and future applicability of Asia engagement. Students have enrolled to support the learning of their children (the future leaders), for international business aspirations, local community engagement, and future travel intentions.
