February LMS project update
22 Mar 2013
VERSION 2.3
The Learning Management System (LMS) was upgraded to MOODLE version 2.3 in December 2012.
Significant changes as a result of this major upgrade include:
- An Assignment Activity that integrates all four assignment types and includes the addition of rubrics and marking guides
- Resource or Activity titles can be edited without leaving the subject home page
- A Resource or Activity can be easily duplicated within any section or topic
- By creating an alias or shortcut, you can reference any file in ‘My Private Files’ from any of your own subjects in the LMS
- Additional topics or sections can be quickly appended to existing sections
- An end to ‘death by scrolling’ with the addition of the Book Resource and Grid Format
- Drag and drop of blocks and files. (Available only with Mozilla Firefox. Contact ict.servicedesk@latrobe.edu.au to have Firefox installed).
“ALL-IN” LECTURE RECORDING
“All-In” Lecture Recording is now operating by default in EchoSystem enabled venues and the pause/resume function has been installed on teaching space consoles. Staff are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the "All-In" Lecture Recording Guidelines.
PHASE 2
Phase 2 of the LMS Upgrade Project is tracking well with a number of improvements and enhancements in the pipeline:
- Mobile Theme: A new theme has been developed for those wishing to access to the LMS via mobile devices and smart phones
- QuickMail: Email can be sent from within the LMS
- Changes to Roles in the LMS (Date to be advised) To clarify administrative processes and to more accurately describe the functionality of the role, the ‘Designer’ role in the LMS will be removed and all current ‘Designers’ will be assigned the role of ‘Manager’
- Staff and Student Profile Photos on the LMS (Moodle)
-
- All staff and student official La Trobe ID photos will be loaded into the LMS from the STICCA card management system
- Students will be able to see their own profile photos and, by default, they will be made available only to the staff (lecturers and tutors) who are teaching them
- Staff and students will have the option of making their profile photo public and replacing their photo
- Guidelines will be developed to inform students of their options in making their profile photo public
