Structure of the NCPO

The NCPO is a Centre within the Division of Allied Health in the Faculty of Health Sciences at La Trobe University. The Division provides administrative support for the centre and for students enrolled in the Prosthetics and Orthotics course. Teaching is done primarily by staff of the Centre with further contributions from other clinical schools. The NCPO staff offices are currently located on levels 3 and 4, Health Sciences 2) while the teaching laboratories are located in the Health Sciences Clinic, a short walk away.

Mission of the NCPO

The mission of the La Trobe Faculty of Health Sciences is to provide high quality, relevant education for the health professions; to conduct research to improve the health of individuals and communities and the equity, efficiency and quality of health services; and to facilitate the attainment of these goals through professional activities and community services.

The mission of the National Centre for Prosthetics and Orthotics is:

  1. to provide high quality, relevant education in prosthetics and orthotics and in particular to prepare competent and safe entry level clinicians to serve the needs of Australians,
  2. to conduct research to improve componentry, fitting and manufacturing processes for prosthetic and orthotic systems and to improve understanding of client needs and use of these systems,
  3. to offer high quality, specialised prosthetic and orthotic clinical services for the community,
  4. to provide leadership to the prosthetic-orthotic profession through involvement in scientific and professional associations.

Offices and Laboratory Facilities

Offices of teaching staff of the NCPO are co-located with staff of the Division of Allied Health on Levels Three and Four of Health Sciences 2 on the Bundoora Campus of the University. The Clinic and Laboratory facilities are located in the Health Sciences Clinic at the North end of the University campus.
