The Nanotechnology Entrance Scholarship Program

The
Nanotechnology Entrance Scholarship Program features $6,000 scholarships
paid during the first year of enrolment in the two La Trobe Nanotechnology undergraduate double degrees. The Program is open to students studying for
the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE), an interstate Year 12 or
equivalent, or the International Baccalaureate (IB); additional eligibility
requirements

Information for Applicant
Benefits
- $6000 scholarship for the first year of enrolment in the two La Trobe Nanotechnology undergraduate double degrees for Victorian VCE, International Baccalaureate (IB) and interstate students, comprising:
- $1,000 on commencement (April)
- $5,000 paid thereafter in equal fortnightly instalments during the academic year
Number of Scholarships
- It is anticipated that two scholarships will be offered
- The final number is dependent on sponsorship and University approval and may be subject to change
The Application Process
To be considered for a Scholarship you must:
- submit an application;
- submit a school reference
- submit a list of awards and activities. (Submit one A4 sheet only; do not send any original documents or copies of documents.)
- satisfy the eligibility criteria.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for a Scholarship you must:
- be
- an Australian citizen or permanent resident who has completed
Year 12 or equivalent in Australia or overseas (for example at
an international
school), or the IB, or
- a New Zealand citizen who has completed Year 12 in Australia
or the IB, or
- a holder of a permanent humanitarian visa who has completed
Year 12 in Australia or the IB; and
- not have undertaken any previous study at tertiary level excluding
TAFE and extension studies undertaken as part of a Year 12 program;
and
- have applied for a place in one or both of the two La Trobe Nanotechnology undergraduate double degrees offered at La Trobe University in 2009; and
- have met the criteria for entry to La Trobe University; and
- have satisfied the prerequisite studies for the La Trobe Nanotechnology undergraduate double degree(s) for which enrolment is requested.
Selection
Selection is based on academic merit and takes into account:
- ENTER
- School reference
- Awards
- Activities
It is expected that selection will be made from applicants whose ENTER or equivalent is 90.00 or above.
Important Information
Scholarship decisions are made on the basis of information available
at the time of selection.
- In determining the award of a Scholarship, the Selection Committee
will distinguish between applicants of equal academic merit through
the use of further information on their academic record provided by VTAC or through
other material provided in the scholarship application.
- Late scholarship applications may be made during the VTAC Change of Preference
period (early December for most applicants) by contacting the Department
of Physics, but these applicants may not be considered in the first
round
of scholarship
offers in December
2008.
- All scholarship offers are conditional upon enrolment in the Nanotechnology
/ Science double degree program of the University.
- The University reserves the right not to award all the scholarships
available.
- These scholarships can not be deferred.
Offers
- Offers will be made to successful VCE applicants in December 2008.
- Offers will be made to successful interstate, IB and other applicants
in early January 2009.
- Unsuccessful applicants will not be notified.
