The MRC research program is built on three underlying research themes: (i) healthy ageing; (ii) injury prevention and recovery, and (iii) chronic disease management. These themes are consistent with the Commonwealth Government’s National Health Priority Areas initiative, which outlined seven key priorities – asthma, cardiovascular health, mental health, cancer, injury prevention, arthritis and musculoskeletal disorders and diabetes. The MRC themes address the latter three national health priorities. Overlying these three themes are seven inter-related, multi-disciplinary research groups: Bone and Cartilage; Gait, Balance and Falls; Foot and Ankle; Knee Orthopaedics; Prosthetics and Orthotics, Muscle Rehabilitation and Back and Neck Pain.
