Occupational Health & Safety

School of Molecular Sciences

The OH&S page provides information for all members of the School about identifying hazardous situations and what to do about them. Hazards are identified when we complete a risk assessment for a procedure. Potential hazards are recorded in our hazard register which directs you to a safe work procedure where appropriate.

Risk assessments should be completed for the use of any potentially hazardous substances (risk assessment for hazardous substances) or for the use of any potentially hazardous equipment. Please keep checking the hazard register for updates as many procedures are already assessed and are listed there.

You can also find useful information on potential hazards and safe work practices in the La Trobe University Occupational Health and Safety Manual, the Chemwatch database and Workcover (includes WorkSafe).

Workplace safety is also monitored by quarterly lab Inspections. Training of students and staff is continually updated and monitored with training checklists.
