UV LIGHT

Ultra-violet light (UV light) damages the eye. Common sources are arc-welding, UV lamps and the sun. Proper eye protection must be worn (dark glasses provide no protection). Looking at an electric arc, even briefly, with no protection produces a painful burn. A doctor must be seen as soon as possible. Ultra-violet sources (such as UV lamps in sterilising units, laminar flow hoods and light boxes) should always be properly shielded. Appropriate eye protection must be worn in the vicinity of exposed sources. Hand and full face protection may also be necessary with some equipment.
