Facilities and ServicesAccommodationResidential accommodation: The HabitatSet in a spacious garden setting, the Sunraysia Institute of TAFE's residential accommodation The Habitat was built in 1982 when the Institute's Mildura Campus was established. The Habitat is about a 30 minutes walk or a 5 minutes drive from the City centre. A taxi service is readily available. The Habitat is conveniently located on Campus and provides accommodation for approximately 50 students. Student roomsThere are single and twin share study bedrooms available. Each student has their own bed (bedding needs to be supplied) desk, chair wardrobe, bedside drawers, bookshelf and pinboard. Students can bring their own TV set, computer and bar fridge. The rooms have airconditioning and heating. Rooms are cleaned weekly by the cleaners. Lounge and kitchen areasEach unit has a communal kitchen and lounge/TV area. The kitchen has a fridge, freezer, stove, microwave, kettle and toaster. Students are advised to bring their own crockery and cutlery. A phone which can receive incoming calls is located in each unit and two gold phones located in the residential complex, are available for outgoing calls. Bathroom and laundriesEach unit has several communal bathrooms with showers, basins and toilets. These are cleaned daily. The laundry has commercial washing machines and driers and is part of the residential complex. Students are expected to wash their own bedding regularly. Safety and securityEach unit is equipped with an emergency alarm, fire extinguishers, smoke and heat detectors, fire blanket and first aid kit. Practice evacuation and emergency procedures are carried out twice a year. Leisure facilitiesThe common room has a large TV and VCR. A table tennis table is available. The Campus also has a large oval. A gas barbecue is provided and The Habitat is set in a spacious garden setting. Disabled accessOne of the units is fitted out with a disabled bathroom and is designed for wheelchair access as is the Campus. General InformationA secured car compound is available for student use. Students may be required to vacate their rooms during term breaks to allow occupancy by sporting or business organisations. Room retention rates are available for students wishing to vacate their rooms during term breaks, work placements or excursions. More informationContact The Habitat office on: Child Care CentreThe Child Care Centre is located on campus in Benetook Avenue and has been Quality Accredited through the National Childcare Accreditation Council. The fully equipped centre caters for children of students, staff and members of the community, aged between 6 weeks and 12 years. The centre is run by a Committee of Management and is funded by the Department of Community Health and Services. The centre employs experienced and qualified staff who provide age related educational activities including a kindergarten program, morning and afternoon teas, nutritious and balanced meals, sleep facilities and nappies. Bookings must be made in advance as vacancies may be limited. Inspection of facilities is invited and enquiries welcomed. Contact the Director of the Child Care Centre on 03 5022 3791. Gambetta Library and BookshopThe Gambetta Library and Bookshop are located on the first floor of the Benetook Avenue Campus. The resource collection includes materials in a variety of formats including print, video and CD ROM. The main collection is available for loan. Exceptions include the Reference, Journal and Videotape collections, but these may all be utilised within the Library. The Library Catalogue is available online. The Library has a Computer Room for use by students and registered Community Borrowers. Patrons are asked to check in at the Circulation Desk prior to accessing the Computer Room and must produce their library card. Both Macintosh and IBM compatible computers are available which have Claris or Microsoft Office programs. Access to the Internet is available on a limited number of computers. Coin-in-the-slot photocopying facilities are available for student and community use. The Bookshop stocks textbooks, course materials, art and stationery supplies. Prices are competitive and EFTPOS facilities available. Members of the community are most welcome to purchase items from the Bookshop. Classes are provided at various levels of tuition from Settlement (new arrivals) to Vocational and English for Further Education. PrintroomThe Printroom provides large print-run photocopying, colour copying and stationery for use within the campus. External clients are welcome to utilise the high quality printing facilities that include a range of binding/stapling options. Restaurant, 'Reflections by the Lake'The Restaurant is open to the community for luncheons and evening meals. Bookings can be made by calling 03 5022 3666. Video Conference FacilitiesInternational standard video conference facilities available for external client use. Options include the use of a boardroom style facility which seats a maximum of 24 participants or the Auditorium, which caters for 200 participants.
