Edge of the Outback

homeThis annual program takes students on a photographic journey through outback Australia. Students develop skills in digital and analogue photography and learn about traditional Australian landscapes and culture. Participants present their work in a gallery exhibition at the end of the program.

Course details

Dates: This 3-week short course has two intakes per year: one in mid-June and one in mid-July. Places in this program are limited.

Fees: A$3,800 (2010)*

The course is made up of several workshops and a major 5-day field trip. The course focuses on the exploration of imagery in the region's ancient landscape, and students learn about the country's history and culture. Students are joing by a local Aboriginal guide on the field trip. This guide give special insight into the cultural significance of the area. The course is finished with an exhibit of students' work in a major regional art gallery.

*The course fee includes the Mildura component of this program, as well as one night's accommodation in Melbourne prior to departure for Mildura, and one night at the conclusion of the program (two nights in total). This accommodation will be in shared rooms in a three star hotel in Melbourne's CBD.

Food is provided during the field trip (approximately 5-6 days) when access to other commercial supplies is not available. For all other days students are responsible for purchasing food and for food costs.
