International students
Why choose a residential college?
It is important for international students to realise that residential colleges are not just hostels. They have a particular lifestyle as a university community and residents are encouraged to participate in the social, cultural and academic life of that community.
Facilities and services include:
- study support
- Down Under program
- libraries
- computers
- common rooms
- cafe
- meeting areas
- sporting program
- separate cooking facilities throughout the College
- free laundry facilities
Students are usually required to stay for a year (except for study abroad and exchange students who visit La Trobe University for one semester).
Students sign a contract with the College before admission. Please read the conditions and rules carefully before you sign. Penalties apply to students who do not stay a full year or who break their residential agreement.
Residential college accommodation provides a structured lifestyle and the opportunity to establish new friendship and support networks, and is recommended for students new to Melbourne and Australia.
All new international students joining Menzies College will be enrolled in the Down Under program, which is designed for students with an understanding English.
