La Trobe University Online Media Program

The La Trobe University Online Media Program was established in 1994 with the financial support of Telstra and La Trobe University. Its principle goals are to investigate the social and economic implications of Internet-based communications.

The Online Media Program has sponsored a series of projects dealing with the economics of the Internet and online services, Internet censorship and the uses of the Internet in the home. In addition the Online Media Program has conducted consultancies on the taxation implications of electronic commerce for the Australian Taxation Office and on electronic publishing for the Victoria Health Promotion Foundation.

Postgraduate students associated with the Online Media Program are working on projects dealing with Internet advertising and marketing. The Online Media Program is the Australian participant in the World Internet Project.

The Online Media Program is located in the Media Studies Program and is directed by Associate Professor Peter B. White.
