John is on the editorial boards of The Radio Journal: international studies in radio and audio, Media International Australia and 3CMedia. He is Convenor of the Australian Radio-Audio Researchers Association (ARARA). As President of the Australian New Zealand Communication Association (2007-2008) John oversaw a modernisation of ANZCA's constitution. He has been involved in ARC-funded network projects with the Cultural Research Network and the Asia Pacific Research Futures Network. John is a member of the Human Security Institute (La Trobe University).
