Mother & Child Health Research (MCHR) is a multidisciplinary public health research centre in the Faculty of Health Sciences at La Trobe University. Established in 1991, MCHR has built a strong program of research addressing issues of major public health importance for mothers and children.

MCHR aims to:
  • undertake and interpret research on mothers' and children's health;
  • contribute to policy development;
  • provide advice and resources to researchers in related fields; and
  • be involved in postgraduate and continuing education.
We have a broad public health and population focus, an inclusive approach to the social and medical aspects of health and care for mothers and infants and we value the contribution in our research of a range of disciplines. We consider the health of mothers and babies as integrally linked while taking seriously the health concerns of women themselves. We emphasise the need for research, service development, evaluation and policy to be linked. We support testing interventions in randomised trials, research translation into clinical practice, and implementation of effective and cost-effective interventions.

For details of MCHR research see our Research Program page.
