Touran joined MCHR in 2006 as a full time student in a Master of Applied Science and upgraded to a PhD in September 2007. Touran explored the maternity care experiences of Afghan and Iranian women, birth outcomes, and also their experiences of postnatal depression. Her PhD titled ‘Maternity care and health after birth: the experiences of Afghan and Iranian women in Melbourne, Australia’ was passed in early 2010.

Currently Touran is a research officer on the SILC and LaCE studies.
