Touran completed a Bachelor of Midwifery in 1994 and worked as a midwife for a number of years in Iran. She joined MCHR in 2006 as a full time student in a Master of Applied Science and upgraded to a PhD in September 2007. Touran is researching the maternity care experiences of Iranian and Afghan women, and also their experiences of depression after birth.
