Dr Matthew Payne

BSc (James Cook University), PhD (University of Queensland)

Research Scientist CASTLE

Matthew has a background in molecular microbiology and received a PhD from the University of Queensland in 2007. During his PhD he investigated the microbial diversity of an aquaculture larval rearing system for the ornate rock lobster, Panulirus ornatus. On completion, he undertook a post-doctoral position at Kings College London where he explored the role of infection in pre-term neonates afflicted with bronchopulmonary dysplasia and analysed the microbial community associated with the cystic fibrosis lung. Matthew has a keen interest in microbe-microbe interactions and joined the CASTLE study to perform the microbiological and molecular investigations associated with the project.
