In addition to publishing results of research in refereed journals, MCHR engages in a range of activities to foster involvement in research and the discussion of research findings.

Advocacy and dissemination strategies include:
  • involvement of key stakeholders in project reference groups
  • active participation and presentation of results at conferences;
  • holding forums and briefings to discuss study results;
  • giving talks and lectures;
  • initiating media coverage of research and responding to media enquiries; and
  • presentation of results in a range of formats, including pamphlets and reports

Conferences, courses and workshops

MCHR staff and students attend a variety of national and international conferences that cover a broad range of areas, including perinatal health, epidemiology, midwifery, obstetrics and gynaecology, women's health, public health,  primary health care, health policy, migration and health and research methodology.

They also continue their education and extend their skills by participating in training and courses.

MCHR Reference Groups

MCHR projects often have reference groups comprising people with expertise in areas related to the topic of research. Each reference group acts in an advisory capacity to the research team, contributing ideas and advice at all stages of the research process although responsibility for the conduct of the research, its analysis and publication rests with the researchers. Working with reference groups is an important way of receiving valuable input from a wide range of service providers, consumers and researchers and a way of facilitating discussion of our research aims and findings in practice settings.

MCHR staff involvement on Committees

Staff members are involved in a range of committees and special interest groups - including university, government and international committees - where specialised expertise and commentary is required in the areas of perinatal, maternal and child health, research methodology and ethics.
