Core professional experiences

In addition to the traditional subjects, La Trobe MBA students complete an e-portfolio and a Boardroom simulation – an intensive simulation of actual boardroom situations and dilemmas. This allows each student to reflect on the ways in which they might apply their studies in their individual professional roles.

E-Portfolio

The e-Portfolio is a core component of the new MBA's commitment to the systematic development of students' personal and professional skills. Involving a reflective online learning process, pebblepad technology is used to construct and continuously evaluate an evidence base for your skills development, and to plan for further skills development through the MBA. As well as online work, you are required to attend facilitated reflective skills development workshops.

By the end of this subject, you  will have constructed a portfolio of demonstrated managerial and leadership competencies for future career advancement. Active career planning is a central feature of this subject. Encouraging reflection on the connections between your past, present and desired future skills, your current and future desired knowledge of your industry context and the competencies and strategies required to achieve career success.

MBA Boardroom simulation

The Boardroom simulation is the final, capstone experience of the La Trobe MBA. This experience is the pinnacle of our MBA program that both brings all of the course elements together at the end and provides a platform of transformation for our MBA’s to leap into their professional careers.

An intensive experience run over a single weekend, the Boardroom simulation begins with teams being briefed with the task to develop a comprehensive business strategy based upon a very real-life and topical scenario. The experience culminates in the presentation of each team’s fully developed strategy to the Company Board. The Company Board consists of experienced industry executives and board members, who will provide each team with real-time feedback and will ultimately decide which strategy the company will run with, and which team will be chosen to lead it. The stakes are high.

This experience provides an opportunity to broaden and deepen your leadership and managerial strengths and capabilities. In the Boardroom simulation, our MBA’s can stretch themselves in a challenging team-based environment that reflects a true-to-life workplace dynamic and provides a stage to realise personal leadership goals and recognise leadership strengths.

*Due to visa restrictions, part-time enrolment is not available to international students.
