Professor Colin White studied economics at Cambridge University where he began his first research on economic planning and continued that research at Leningrad University.

He worked at the Centre for Russian and East European Studies of the University College Swansea, part of the University of Wales, for 8 years before coming to Australia and to La Trobe University where he has worked for the last twenty-six years. He has served as head of 3 different departments including economics and as inaugural head of the Graduate School of Management.

His publications include a number of major studies of the process of economic development stressing a comparative approach with studies of Russia, America, Australia and the Pacific Rim. As a member of the GSM his research interest has extended from the comparative economic performance of countries to that of enterprises.

Professor White's most recent publications are an extended treatment 'Strategic Management' 2004 which he developed while teaching strategy at the GSM and 'Risk and Foreign Investment' 2006. He has travelled widely and given papers at conferences all over the world.
