Pathways to La Trobe

If you don’t receive an offer for your preferred course, don’t worry, other entry pathways exist.
Uni preparation courses
La Trobe’s Tertiary Enabling Program is a free university preparation program for people who have left school, may or may not have completed Year 12, would like to go to university and who want to develop the academic skills necessary for success at university level. Read more about the Tertiary Enabling Program.
A maths bridging course is available at our Melbourne campus for students who have not recently completed Year 12 and who want to study a course at La Trobe which requires maths. Read more about maths bridging.
Transfer from another course
You can apply to transfer to a La Trobe course from another university, or from another La Trobe course. After completing the first year of a related course you may gain a place in your preferred course (depending on prerequisites and your first-year grades). You may even get credit for some of your completed subjects. Read more about transferring from another course.
La Trobe Melbourne
Your alternate pathway to La Trobe University.
La Trobe Melbourne offers a direct pathway into the second year of several La Trobe University degrees. Visit the La Trobe Melbourne website for details.
Study single subjects
Studying single subjects is a great alternative pathway to gain entry into your preferred course. Taking one or two single subjects doesn't guarantee you admission, but a strong performance will enhance your application. If you get a place, you can then apply for Advanced Standing (credit) for the subjects you've completed. Taking single subjects is also a great way to find out whether a particular area of study is right for you, and boost your confidence for further uni studies. Read more about single subject study.
Transfer from TAFE
La Trobe also offers students from various TAFEs and other institutions the opportunity to fast-track their undergraduate degree via credit for successful or partial completion of specific Diploma or Advanced Diploma programs. Read more about transferring to La Trobe from TAFE.
Our students' stories
Our student’s stories contains many helpful hints from La Trobe students who found their own pathway to uni.
